Here is my fly of the day! I got out on some smallmouth water yesterday and the conditions were low and super clear. I decided not to throw my normal poppers or Bead Head Bugger and instead go with foam. I found interested fish towards the bank in the shade of the big trees. I was throwing mostly black cicada patterns. Dead drifting flies just like trout fishing.
After working a long stretch of slow moving “frog water”, I came upon a set of riffles. I decided to put on a Montana fly: the Chubby Chernobyl in purple. I rolled the fly into the bubble seam and WHOKKAWHO!!!! A nice smallie moved quickly and DESTROYED the fly. I needed my hemos to get the fly out of him and that fly was BEAT.
